Infections: Elder Neglect, NJ
Nursing homes must establish and maintain an infection control program. This program should be designed to provide a sanitary environment and help prevent the development and transmission of disease and infection. Some infections are acceptable risks of nursing home and hospital stays. However, a resident should not contact an infection or disease because of the nursing home’s negligence. If a resident has an infection, the resident should be isolated to prevent the spread of infection to other residents. The nursing home should have appropriate procedures for hand hygiene, linen cleaning, food preparation, medical supplies and equipment.
